Transhumance

Personal project - 2012

Sandrone prefers to move the sheep in the late afternoon, so that it is less likely to meet cars along the way. It is almost seven o'clock in the evening and the dogs run along the sides of the flock, bringing the sheep back to each scream, disappearing at times in the dark shadows of the vegetation.

This is not an authorized transhumance, getting permits is long and difficult.
Sandrone starts roll a joint, whistling and speaking the tongues of the sheep.

Manuel, his friend, helps him and stands at the head of the flock, he is also a shepherd."They are beautiful and his beasts" he tells us."Mine are not so beautiful at all."

We take the wrong road in the middle of the brambles, then we take the right one, without torches,
but with the sheep that lighten the paths.

Sandrone this summer will leave the sheep to other shepherds and for a few months he will go to the Valle d'Aosta to graze a friend's flock, to spread out and see different places:"So, I go on vacation" he says.
